Nipashe
NIPASHE news paper is the part of TheGuardian Limited, which is also owned by the IPP Group Limited. The Guardian Limited entered into competition with the Business Times Limited when back then Managing Director Vumi Urasa launched Nipashe (Tell Me the News) in April 1994.
NIPASHE is a Swahili daily newspaper which targets at the general public and cater for all age groups carrying a mix of news articles, features, analysis, photos, politics, economics, education, sports and entertainment and other issues. This daily news paper reaches all regions in the country, with Dar es Salaam residents enjoying a lion’s share.
According to a GeoPoll media consumption survey (Aug 30 – Sep 1st, 2018), Nipashe is the second most popular newspaper with xx.xXx% audience share. According to the company itself, NIPASHE’s Newspaper circulation is at 28,000 copies a day, and each copy is supposedly read by no less than ten people a day. Nipashe is also publishes one weaklies news paper known as Nipashe Jumapili.
According to a media quality study commissioned by Media Council of Tanzania, Nipashe presents a number of viewpoints in their stories – this means arguments from at least two sides are used. Also, Nipashe’s articles covering root causes relatively well and puts figures and numbers into good context. It is also striking how often Nipahse refers to authorities when making a point – in almost every fourth story, authorities will be mentioned as source.
NIPASHE operates under the umbrella of The Guardian which is part of the IPP Group Limited. IPP Group Limited is a manufacturing, bottling and media conglomerate, which includes television, radio stations and newspapers. Its company profile requested at the Business Registry shows that Dr. Reginald Mengi is shareholder of IPP Group Limited but also Agapitus Leon Nguma.
Mengi was born in 1944 in Tanzania. He is a Tanzanian philanthropist, industrialist, media tycoon and the founder/Executive Chairman of IPP Group. He also is the vice president of the National Board of Accountants and Auditors, Tanzania. Mengi was featured in FORBES’ ranking of Africa’s richest people with a fortune of more than $400 million in 2015.
Agapitus Leon Nguma was the former company secretary and shareholder. He passed away on May 1st, 2018. He was also Director of the Guardian Ltd. and Bonite Bottlers Ltd. Lawyer by profession.
